2. Design & Specification

Our design team produces concept drawings, layout options, and 3D visuals where useful. 3. Quotation & Approval

Common Glass Decor Mistakes to Avoid in Qatar

After more than a decade of glass work in Qatar, certain mistakes appear repeatedly — and almost every failed glass installation we’ve been asked to remediate had one or more of these in its history. Here are the most common ones, and how a properly-run glass project avoids them.

1. Specifying glass without site survey

Glass cut from architectural drawings rather than an actual site survey almost always arrives the wrong size — walls aren’t square, floors aren’t level, and openings vary by millimetres that matter when the panel is 12mm toughened glass. Glass cannot be trimmed on site. A proper survey, taken by the team that will fabricate the panels, is the only way to avoid the panels-don’t-fit problem. We never quote frameless work from drawings alone on a final-stage project.

2. Choosing the cheapest hardware

Glass hardware — hinges, channels, brackets, clamps — is what holds the panel in place across thousands of operating cycles or under structural load. Cheap hardware loosens, sags, corrodes, and fails — sometimes catastrophically. The hardware is rarely more than 10–15% of a glass installation’s cost; saving on it is saving on the wrong thing. We specify hardware from established manufacturers as standard.

3. Using the wrong glass type for the application

Standard annealed glass cannot be used on shower enclosures, balustrades, doors, or any installation where safety regulations require toughened or laminated glass — and using it anyway is both illegal and dangerous. Equally, using toughened glass without lamination on overhead applications is a code violation in many jurisdictions. We specify glass to the correct safety standard for every installation, every time.

4. Skipping edge work on visible panels

A glass panel’s edges are part of the finish. Polished, ground, bevelled, or matt-finished edges are the difference between a confident installation and one that looks unfinished. Cheap glass installations leave raw edges or basic seamed edges visible, and the panels read as ‘just glass’ rather than as a designed element. Proper edge work costs more and is non-negotiable on visible installations.

5. Underestimating substrate and waterproofing on shower enclosures

A frameless shower enclosure is only as watertight as the substrate it seals against — and substrates that aren’t level, that have movement, or that are waterproofed badly will leak regardless of how good the glass installation is. We assess substrate and waterproofing at the survey stage and flag any issue before glass is fabricated. Showers that leak after installation almost always have a substrate problem, not a glass problem.

6. Treating decorative glass as cosmetic only

Sandblasted patterns, etched logos, and back-painted finishes need to be specified for the location’s exposure — UV, moisture, abrasion, cleaning chemicals — or they degrade. Decorative glass on a sunlit feature wall needs UV-stable inks; back-painted glass in a bathroom needs paint rated for steam exposure. Treating decorative finishes as purely cosmetic is the fastest way to a feature that fades or peels.
