Project Overview

Waldorf Astoria sits at the very top of Hilton’s hotel portfolio — the brand’s flagship luxury label, with a heritage stretching back to 1893 New York and a guest experience built around ‘true Waldorf service.’ When the brand expanded into Qatar with the Alar Grand Villas at Doha Lusail — a collection of branded residences within the wider Waldorf Astoria property — the standard for every supporting fit-out partner was set against the brand’s global benchmark.

Cedars Trading & Contracting was commissioned to deliver bespoke custom furniture, refined joinery, and interior fit-out scope for the villas — designed, manufactured, and installed by our Doha workshop. The work covered private cinema and entertainment spaces, custom seating, fitted joinery, and the supporting fit-out elements that complete a Waldorf-grade interior. Every component was built specifically for the property, the brand, and the standard of guest experience the Waldorf name carries.

The Brief

Branded residences from a flagship Hilton label sit at the intersection of hospitality and high-end residential — and the brief reflects both. The standard set by the Waldorf Astoria design and operations teams was clear from the start.

• Deliver to the property’s mobilisation programme, with on-site installation handled by the same team that built the pieces.

Our Approach

Cedars handled every stage of the project under one team — design refinement, material selection, joinery manufacturing, hand-upholstery, finishing, and on-site installation — from our Doha workshop. Branded residences in particular benefit from the single-team model: the volume and complexity of the scope is closer to a hospitality fit-out than a typical villa project, but the comfort and material standards have to feel residential.

Design Refinement & Material Calibration

The starting point was the design intent agreed with the property’s design team. From there, we produced shop drawings, material schedules, and physical samples — fabric, leather, wood, metal, finish — for sign-off before manufacturing began. Waldorf Astoria’s brand language calls for restrained luxury: confident materials, immaculate finishing, and detail work that holds up under close inspection. Every selection was reviewed in detail before any frame was cut.

Bespoke Cinema & Entertainment Furniture

The private cinema seating was a centrepiece of the brief. Cedars designed and built bespoke recliner seating with integrated drink rests, motorised mechanisms, and hand-stitched upholstery — engineered for both the long-session comfort a private cinema demands and the aesthetic refinement the Waldorf name requires. Frames were kiln-dried solid hardwood, with proper internal structure for the motorised mechanisms, high-density fire-rated foam, and commercial-grade fabrics suitable for sustained residential use.

Refined Joinery & Fitted Detail

Our joinery division produced the supporting fitted joinery, panelling, and feature detail across the villa scope. Materials were specified to coordinate with the property’s broader interior palette, with restrained metalwork, considered edge profiles, and finishing handled in our controlled finishing booths. Branded residence joinery has to read as residential while performing to hospitality construction standards — a balance that comes from how the work is built, not just how it’s specified.

Site Installation & Operator Handover

Our installation crew delivered, positioned, and adjusted every piece on site at Alar Grand Villas. Pre-handover snagging was run by our QC team alongside the property’s project managers, addressing every detail before the operator formally accepted the spaces. Compliance documentation — fire-rating certificates, material specifications, warranty records — was provided in full at handover for operator records, in line with Waldorf Astoria brand standards.
