Project Overview

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is an international hospitality brand within the Accor portfolio, recognised across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia for its precise service standards and consistently calibrated guest experience. A Mövenpick property carries the operator’s brand specifications into every interior detail, and fit-out partners are selected on their ability to meet those specifications without compromise — on a programme, in a real market, at real volume.

Cedars Trading & Contracting was commissioned to deliver bespoke custom furniture and tailored joinery for Mövenpick Hotel in Baghdad — designed and manufactured in our Doha workshop, then transported, installed, and commissioned on site in Iraq. The scope covered hospitality seating, dining and lounge furniture, and fitted joinery elements supporting the hotel’s public-area interiors. Every piece was built specifically for the property, the brand, and the daily commercial use a city hotel of this calibre actually receives.

The Brief

Hotel projects under Accor’s brand standards run to a clear specification, and the Mövenpick design and operations teams set the bar from day one.

  • Deliver bespoke furniture that captures the brand’s refined, internationally calibrated aesthetic — restrained luxury, immaculate finishing, no unnecessary ornament.
  • Engineer hospitality seating and dining pieces for both visual presence and genuine comfort across long sittings and continuous commercial cycles.
  • Coordinate custom furniture and fitted joinery so the public-area interiors read as a single coherent project, not a collection of separate orders.
  • Meet operator-grade durability standards — fire-rated upholstery, commercial-grade fabrics, hospitality-grade frame construction, and Accor brand specifications throughout.
  • Deliver to the property’s mobilisation programme across an international logistics route — Doha workshop, cross-border freight, Baghdad install — with no slippage to the launch date.

Our Approach

Cedars handled every stage of the project under one team — design refinement, material selection, frame manufacturing, hand-upholstery, joinery, finishing, freight coordination, and on-site installation in Baghdad. The single-team model is what removes coordination friction across a hospitality fit-out, and it matters even more on a cross-border commission, where any handoff between trades or contractors is a place the standard, or the schedule, can slip.

Design Refinement & Sample Approval

The starting point was the design intent agreed with the hotel’s design and operations teams. From there, we produced shop drawings, structural details, and physical samples — fabric, frame profile, joinery finish, edge detail — for sign-off before any component was cut. On a cross-border project, getting every specification approved at the sample stage is the only way to avoid expensive corrections after the freight has shipped. Nothing left our Doha workshop until it had been signed off in writing.

Hand-Built Hospitality Furniture

The bespoke seating and lounge furniture was built on kiln-dried solid hardwood frames, with proper spring construction, high-density fire-rated foam, and hand-finished upholstery. Hospitality furniture has a different brief from residential work — it has to absorb continuous use, cleaning cycles, and the wear of operator-grade environments without the lines softening or the construction loosening. Each piece was assembled and finished in our workshop, dry-fitted, then carefully crated for the international freight to Baghdad.

Joinery, Dining Furniture & Detail Pieces

Alongside the upholstered furniture, our joinery division produced the dining furniture package and the fitted joinery details that complete the hotel’s public spaces. Materials were specified to coordinate with the property’s overall palette, with restrained metalwork, considered edge profiles, and finishing handled in our finishing booths. Every detail was sized and proportioned to hospitality-grade specifications as default, not as upgrades, with all fixings and hardware specified for commercial duty cycles.

Cross-Border Logistics & On-Site Installation

Delivering a hospitality fit-out from Doha into Baghdad is a logistics exercise as much as a manufacturing one. Our team coordinated the export documentation, freight, and customs clearance into Iraq, and mobilised our own installation crew to site for the install. Each piece was delivered, lifted into position, and adjusted on site by Cedars personnel — which is the only reliable way to handle bespoke furniture and fitted joinery without alignment issues, scuffs, or gaps at the wall. The QC team ran a snagging walk-through alongside the property’s project team before the rooms were formally accepted, and compliance documentation was provided in full at handover for operator records.

Why Mövenpick Hotel Selected Cedars

Hotels operating under Accor brand standards have access to fit-out partners across the region. The reasons Cedars was selected for Mövenpick Baghdad — and continues to be selected for hospitality work at this tier — come down to a few specific things.

In-House Workshop, Not a Reseller

Bespoke hospitality furniture and fitted joinery cannot be ordered from a catalogue. We design, manufacture, finish, and install in our own Doha workshop, which means the frame, the upholstery, the joinery, and the on-site fitting are all the responsibility of one team. Subcontracting is where most hospitality fit-outs lose alignment between trades — and on a cross-border project, it’s also where the schedule loses control. We don’t do it.

Hospitality-Grade as Default

Many of our residential clients benefit from the standards our hospitality work demands — fire-rated foams, commercial-grade fabrics, hand-tied springs, kiln-dried hardwood frames, marine-grade hardware where appropriate. For an international hotel under Accor, those standards are non-negotiable, and they are built into our process rather than added as upgrades.

Cross-Border Delivery Capability

Manufacturing in Doha and installing in Baghdad is not the same project as fitting out a property down the road from the workshop. We’ve built the export documentation, freight coordination, customs experience, and mobile installation capability needed to deliver a Cedars project anywhere in the GCC and the wider region, without losing the standard at the border. That capability is the reason cross-border commissions like Mövenpick Baghdad and Marriott NEOM (Sindalah Island) sit alongside our Doha work in the portfolio.

Track Record at the Tier

Cedars has delivered alongside The St. Regis Doha, Marriott NEOM (Sindalah Island), The Chedi Hotel, Waldorf Astoria, La Cigale (Accor), and other operators at the same tier. Hospitality clients at this level reference each other heavily, and our project-by-project track record across operators, properties, and geographies is the basis on which most of these commissions reach us.
