Project Overview

Fauchon — the Parisian gourmet house with a heritage stretching back to 1886 — is one of the most exacting hospitality brands a fit-out partner can be invited to work with. When the brand opened its café concept at The St. Regis Doha on The Pearl, the brief carried two competing demands: it had to feel unmistakably Fauchon, with the brand’s distinctive Parisian sensibility, and it had to sit comfortably within The St. Regis’s own five-star design language. The middle ground required custom-built solutions, not catalogue furniture.

Cedars Trading & Contracting was commissioned to deliver the bespoke furniture and joinery package for the café — designed, manufactured, and installed by our Doha workshop. The scope covered the signature curved banquette seating, dining tables, joinery details, and finishing across the public space. Every piece was built specifically for the room, the brand, and the daily commercial use a flagship café in The Pearl actually receives.

The Brief

Hospitality projects of this calibre rarely have generous tolerances. The brief from the client team set a clear standard from day one.

Our Approach

Cedars handled every stage of the project under one team — design refinement, material selection, frame manufacturing, hand-upholstery, finishing, and on-site installation — from our Doha workshop. That single-team model is how we removed the coordination friction that typically appears on multi-trade hospitality fit-outs, where the upholsterer doesn’t talk to the joiner and nothing aligns at the seam.

Design Refinement & Sample Approval

The starting point was the design intent agreed with the client team and Fauchon’s brand custodians. From there, we produced shop drawings, structural details, and physical samples — fabric, button detail, frame profile, edge finish — for sign-off before a single component was cut. Curved banquette seating in particular leaves no margin for design errors at the manufacturing stage; the geometry has to be right on paper before it’s right in solid timber.

Hand-Built Banquette Seating

The signature curved banquettes were built on kiln-dried solid hardwood frames, with proper spring construction, high-density fire-rated foam, and hand-stitched deep-button upholstery. Curved seating is technically demanding — the radius has to be consistent, the buttoning has to follow the curve without distortion, and the final piece has to look as confident from behind as it does from the front. Each banquette was assembled and finished in our workshop, dry-fitted, then carefully crated for site delivery.

Joinery, Tables & Finishes

Alongside the upholstered seating, our joinery division produced the table package and the supporting joinery details that complete the room. Materials were selected to coordinate with the existing finishes at The St. Regis Doha while carrying enough character to feel distinctively Fauchon. Edge details, surface finishes, and hardware were specified to hospitality-grade standards as default, not as upgrades.

Site Installation & Handover

Our installation crew mobilised to The Pearl for the install. Each banquette was delivered, lifted into position, and adjusted on site by the same team that built it — which is the only reliable way to handle bespoke curved seating without scuffs, gaps at the wall, or alignment issues. The QC team ran a snagging walk-through before handover, addressing every detail before the property accepted the room.

Bespoke curved banquette seating cannot be ordered from a catalogue. We design, manufacture, finish, and install in our own Doha workshop, which means the frame, the upholstery, and the on-site fitting are all the responsibility of one team. Subcontracting is where most hospitality fit-outs lose alignment; we don’t do it.

Hospitality openings move on fixed dates. A workshop in Doha, an installation crew in Doha, and a project manager in Doha all working from the same shop drawings is the only reliable way to hit a launch date with the standard intact. Imported pieces or workshops outside Qatar add programme risk this kind of project does not have time for.
