Project Overview

The Chedi is one of the most distinctive luxury hotel brands in the world — quiet, refined, deliberately understated, with a guest experience defined by what’s been edited out as much as what’s been designed in. The Chedi Katara Hotel & Resort in Doha extended that brand language into Qatar, and the standard of execution required across the property was set accordingly. Restraint at this level isn’t easy; it leaves no detail to hide behind.

Cedars Trading & Contracting was commissioned to deliver bespoke furniture, refined joinery, and interior fit-out scope for the property — designed, manufactured, and installed by our Doha workshop. The work covered guestroom and public-area furniture pieces, custom library and feature joinery, and the supporting fit-out elements that complete a five-star interior. Every component was built specifically for the property, the brand, and the daily commercial use a luxury hotel actually receives.

The Brief

Our Approach

Cedars handled every stage of the project under one team — design refinement, material selection, joinery manufacturing, hand-upholstery, finishing, and on-site installation — from our Doha workshop. That single-team model is how we removed coordination friction across the multiple trades a hospitality fit-out demands, where any handoff between suppliers is a place the standard can slip.

Design Refinement & Material Calibration

The starting point was the design intent agreed with the property’s design team. From there, we produced shop drawings, material schedules, and physical samples — wood, fabric, leather, metal, finish — for sign-off before manufacturing began. Restrained interiors are unforgiving on material selection: the wrong wood tone, the wrong fabric texture, or the wrong metal finish reads loudly when there’s no ornament to absorb it. Every material decision was made with a sample in hand, in the actual light the room receives.

Bespoke Furniture & Hand-Upholstery

Custom furniture pieces were built on kiln-dried solid hardwood frames, with proper spring construction, high-density fire-rated foam, and hand-stitched upholstery in commercial-grade fabrics rated for hospitality use. The Chedi’s design language calls for clean lines, generous proportions, and quiet detailing — and that simplicity demands more, not less, from the manufacturing standard. Every joint, every seam, every edge has to be right because there’s nothing else to look at.

Refined Joinery & Library Detail

Our joinery division produced the feature joinery elements — library shelving, lounge cabinetry, panelling detail, and the supporting fitted pieces. Materials were selected to coordinate with the property’s existing palette, with dark-stained hardwood detailing, restrained metalwork, and edge profiles handled in our finishing booths. The library wall in particular required disciplined geometry — symmetric proportions, consistent shelf depths, and tightly mitred edges — to read as the calm, considered feature it was designed to be.

Site Installation & Operator Handover

Our installation crew mobilised to the property for the install. Each piece was delivered, lifted into position, and adjusted on site by the same team that built it. Pre-handover snagging was run by our QC team alongside the property’s project managers, addressing every detail before the operator formally accepted the spaces. Compliance documentation — fire-rating certificates, material specifications, warranty records — was provided in full at handover for operator records.

We design, manufacture, finish, and install in our own Doha workshop, which means the build, the finishing, and the on-site fitting are all the responsibility of one team.
